How to read a TSYS merchant statement
TSYS statements (sample: June 2014) have an Activity Summary with sales by card brand and a "Total" row ($764.69 in the sample), then fee detail split into three buckets that add up on the Summary page:
- Processing detail: card categories with rates (e.g., "VS CPS Rewards 1", "MC Merit III Debit"). These names are interchange categories.
- Authorization detail: per-authorization fees (e.g., $0.20 Visa/MC, $0.15 debit).
- Other detail: assessments and fixed fees. In the sample: PCI annual non-scanable $59.00, wireless network monthly access fee $15.95, regulatory & compliance fee $5.00, Visa FANF $2.00.
The sample totals "Total Processing Service Fees of $103.96", an effective rate of 13.6% on very low volume, which shows how fixed fees hurt small accounts. TSYS also notes errors must be reported in writing within 90 days.
